Don’t Make This Facebook Mistake
Facebook to go the way of MySpace?
If you are relying on Facebook to build your business, you may be setting yourself up for a tragic disappointment. A new article from Eric Markowitz states that, “Social networks function like infectious diseases, according to Princeton researchers. They spread fast—and then disappear.” See article here…
I can’t tell you how many businesses I’ve talked to in recent years that don’t have a website. It always surprises me, but some small businesses use Facebook as their only online presence and don’t see the need to have a business website.
Are you making this Facebook mistake?
After twenty years in the Internet business I have seen well-funded companies burst on the scene, take the world by storm and then go away in the blink of an eye. Yahoo used to be the #1 search engine, MySpace used to be the #1 social network and scores of other services have exploded online and then just disappeared.
The one constant that has remained the same through all these changes is the value attached to a business website. Trends, gimmicks and “life changing” online services come and go, but the need for a company website has never changed since the day Al Gore invented the Internet.
Facebook on the decline
Young people have already abandoned Facebook. They don’t like the changes or the fact that their parents are now on Facebook. Users that include yours truly, are increasingly dissatisfied with Facebook and their method of filtering posts and charging us increasing amounts of money to “Boost a Post” so that more of our friends can see what we thought they would see when we friended them.
Focus on what is important
A website is the hub of every online presence. Everything you do online should be focused on creating awareness and driving traffic to your website. Your YouTube Channel, Pinterest, Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and every other external resource should exist to provide links to your website.
The Flathead business opportunity
One of the most important things you can do to help your website rank better in search results, and attract more traffic is to obtain strong local links. This is one of the primary benefits of having a listing in the Flathead Guide. You get a link from a local authority website that is also positioned to help you capture searches from mobile devices.
The Flathead Guide is the official Flathead Valley Business Directory, a digital exclusive resource developed for the purpose of helping local Flathead Valley businesses get more traction online.
